Pinterest Share

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to share a post from Camp Wander's Facebook page to my EO Pinterest page. So I will share on my blog, and PIN it. :)

IF you don't have the essential oil of Oregano in a pure form you might want to rethink that...in fact, I always keep at least 3 bottles in the house, always. Here's a quick synopsis of why it's a necessary EO in every single household.

Oregano Essential Oil Kills 99% of Breast Cancer Cells in Vitro: Researchers have just shown that oregano oil kills >99% of human breast cancer cells at remarkably low concentrations. In fact, oregano was the most powerful of four essential oils (sage, ginseng, stevia) at killing all six different cancer cell lines tested, including cervical, breast, leukemia, lung, and colon cancer. How? It was discovered (surprisingly) that oregano almost completely depletes cancer cells of their glutathione—an antioxidant they need to survive. Without glutathione, cancer cells are highly vulnerable to oxidative stress and quickly die. Oregano has also shown such potent antifungal activity (sharply reducing Candida growth) and antibacterial activity (inhibiting listeria, salmonella, pseudomonas and others) that it’s now being tested as a natural preservative for raw chicken meat (with promising results already). This super-herb is traditionally used in the cuisine of Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and Latin American countries, and has been used in traditional medicine to treat disorders of the respiratory, urinary and gastrointestinal tracts, arthritis, and even sore throat. It can be made into a tea, and used in many different recipes, so why not try adding more oregano to your diet? And be sure to use generously on your pizza and Greek salad.

2014.5

Trying to keep the sadness at bay. I am continuing in most of my traditions. That visit to Florida was exactly what I needed to get me thru Christmas. My Christmas stuff is still up, but I am not stressing. Otis is traveling again, which adds to my sadness. I'll miss him. I will tackle the Christmas stuff and put it away right this year! It may be in March but, so what!

In keeping with traditions, I will be hosting an Ivey bash for the Golden Globes. Should be fun, I love getting catty with all the Ivey women, and maybe some of the men. I am sharing a recipe that I have been using forever...

This is exactly where I wrote it when I got tired of looking for the recipe EVERY TIME I wanted to make it.about 12 years ago..It's in the back of my favorite, most used cookbook. Thanks MEL!

2014.4

So 1/2 of our quartet made it home. I was a nervous wreck waiting, monitoring, texting, and Face booking with friends at home who were up. I was trying to arrange a ride home for BobKat, who were on the plane. We, Bill & I, took advantage of the 77 degree temp & sunshine. We went to the pool, he swam, i stood. Got some sun, then went to visit Casey & Janet & Sean. We watched the game, and a buncha drunken ass ladies until they were too much.(Sean recorded them, Youtube gold, he said.) Hit the road back to the hotel, got off the expressway in a sketchy part of town for gas, and managed to get back on the expressway without any incidents. Back to Tampa Airport Marriott, whew, and a good nights sleep. Hopefully Spirit (the nickel/dime airline) will get us home to Ohare today.

Cross your fingers.

Some day I'll figure out how to place the pictures properly. for now, I just don't have the spare time to learn.

2014.3

Well it's been an interesting 24 hours.

We HAD reservations on Southwest to fly home. The flight wasn't until later in the day, so we figured that Southwest would would get their act together by then. We left our cute little cottage with the beach view, drove an hour & 1/2 north, to Tampa had lunch in the Tampa Airport Marriott, and then got a call from my sister, who was monitoring my flight. CANCELLED. OKAY, TIME TO MAKE SOME QUICK DECISIONS... a room, at said Marriott, done...extension on car, done...kids call into work, done...a new flight, NOPE. NO Southwest til Tuesday(isn't that a band?) SO, we now have reservations, on MONDAY, to OHARE. Here's hoping it works out.

2014.2

Beautiful day in the sun. 78. Beach is fabulous. Trying to store up sunshine & warmth in my soul for the long, crappy Chicago winter. Oh, did I mention it's snowing a foot of snow in Oak Lawn.

Lazy Experimental Baker, accent on Mental

I have been searching Pinterest and craving a Crumb cake and nothing is exactly what I crave. So, of course I just combined a bunch of stuff and I'll let you know how it tastes.

Lemon, Blueberry Crumb Cake

Preheat oven to 350*.

I combined a cinnamon crumb cake mix, minus the cinnamon (it's in a separate bag). And All the called for ingredients:
3/4 C. Water
4 T. Oil
2 Large eggs

Fresh blueberries, which I needed to use because they were nearing their expiration, and in order to make my conscience clear when I eat cake for breakfast...It has fruit!

Oh, and some lemon zest, mixed with a bit of sugar...left over from making Cheesecakes the other day.
I'd say zest of 1/2 lemon with 2 t. sugar.

For the Crumb,
1/2 C. flour
1/2 C. sugar
1/4 C. butter, melted
Mix together with a fork until you can't see the white of the sugar or flour. It should look like globby crumbs. The color of the melted butter. (Sorry, I'm really not describing it properly) Below is a picture :)

Grease and lightly flour an 8 X 8 pan. Pour 1/2 - 3/4 of the batter into the pan, layer blueberries with some of the lemon zest mixture. Pour remaining batter over top. Sprinkle more berries, lemon zest, and the Crumb mixture. Bake Approx 35-40 minutes.

Hope it taste as good as it smells!
